The 50th Chicano Moratorium Committee, formalized in 2020 to continue the struggle against war and injustices since the 1970 police attacks on August 29, 1970, declares our right to reject and resist the new U.S. war against our communities.
We call for unity against ICE U.S. federal policy of domestic terrorism.
These attacks are not new to our people. From the 19th century war to occupy our lands with a false promise in treaty to accept our legal right to live in these lands, to the 20th century federal policies of the “Repatriation Movement”, “Bracero Program”, “Operation Wetback”, and various deportation laws, we are again the target of racist & terroristic demonization and attack.
The new U.S. policy of mass deportations, criminalization, and ethnic cleansing repeats the old fear of an “invasion” force that will upset the order of privilege in colonial America. The blame game for crime, economic recession, loss of jobs, etc. is on-going with media duplicity, and directed by a political machine controlled by the capitalist billionaire cabal.
We are the workers that produce the wealth. However, it’s the capitalist class that controls this economy, who is hired, the import & export of goods, the media outlets, and the financing of the political selection of
legislators. Through this system they operate with control of working-class taxes and finance war, state police/military forces, and the narrative to protect the “rule of law” used to enforce power over the people.
We reject the violation of constitutional protections to redress grievances, free speech and association, and the right to live in peace. We denounce the use of military force, invasion of our communities, illegal arrest of working people and their leaders, like David Huerta, President of SEIU California, and, the presence of the illegally dispatched National Guard forces against the objection of the elected governor.
We call on all progressive forces, including political parties, labor organizations, and community groups to unite against the neo-liberal & right-wing fascist in the U.S. dressed as “representatives”, and defend the constitutional right to protest, free speech, and assembly.
We seek peace & justice for all!
In Appreciation & Solidarity,
The 50th Chicano Moratorium Committee (50th CMC)
