Mourning The Loss of Steve Salas

Steve Salas, co-founder of the pioneering Eastside Chicano rock band Tierra, dies at 69

The 50th Chicano Moratorium Committee morns the loss of Steve Salas, brother of Rudy Salas and co-founder of the Tierra Band, who were both supporters and activist of our work in the Chicano Civil Rights movement dating back to the 1960's, and our annual commemorations of August 29th to educate our community and youth in the struggle for justice, equality and peace for all. We begin the 2022 year with tributes to the Salas family and the 50th year since the founding of Tierra, the famous East L.A. Chicano Rock/R&B band that continues to represent, celebrate, and offer unity and love to our community.
