Chicana On Fire, Ignited by the 1970s East L.A. Chicano Protest Movement
Chicana On Fire, Ignited by the 1970 East L.A. Chicano Protest Movement by Vibiana Aparicio- Chamberlin is her gift to the Chicano community, to our youth and to the 52nd Chicano Moratorium Organizing Committee. “The historical significance of the Moratorium should never be forgotten. There are films, songs, essays, and theater works telling the story leading up to that day in August 29, 1970, East Los Angeles when Ruben Salazar was assassinated. My contribution to our history is my book of narrative poetry and art.
Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin took active roles as a poet, a teatro director, a political columnist, and an artist who documented the political events of the Chicano Movement of the late 1960s, the 1970s to the present. “Her activism was ignited by this period and her writing reveals an authentic East Los poetry of witness.” Writes D. Lugo. Chicana On Fire is available at Vroman’s Books, Pasadena, vibi@sbcglobal.net and on Amazon. Vibiana will sign and dedicate Chicana On Fire At the Epiphany Church reading, August 20, 6 pm. Fr. Richard Estrada and Rosalio Muñoz host Vibiana’s debut book launch.
